[video] Russian engineer-turned-rebel explains who blew up the Kakhovka dam

Structures like the Kakhovka dam are designed to resist near-nuclear attacks.

It takes a huge amount of TNT to tear down structures like the dam of the Kakhovka hydro power plant, which normally are designed to withstand near-nuclear attacks, opines a Russian volunteer fighter interviewed by the military correspondent and blogger Mark Feygin.

The fighter, a former engineer and military experts who goes by the alias Caesar and is part of the Russian Freedom battalion within the Ukrainian armed forces, says that Ukraine does not possess in principle weapons capable of producing an impact like the complete destruction of a 30-meter high, 3.2-kilometer long, and 25-40-meter wide concrete and steel construction.

“For your understanding, Tochka-U [a 6.2-meter, 1-stage guided Russian missile] with an explosive load of 450 kilograms can damage a small block, while during the World War II, allied air forces used 5-ton bombs to tear down structures of this kind.

"And yet, they did not employ direct hits, but very accurate underwater bombing near [the dam], for the sake of obtaining hydro-dynamic force to crack the dam, repeating the sorties all over again, which ultimately lead to its destruction.”

Therefore, the fighter with engineering knowledge concluded, it’s now way to blow up a dam like the one in Kakhovka with HIMARS or Tochka-U, or any other missiles currently employed by Ukraine. This was a deliberate activity, with enough time to plan the operation and plant a lot of TNT, he specified.

“Caesar” suggests that the Russian army probably intended to damage a part of the dam for a controlled leakage of water from the Kakhovka reservoir containing a volume of 18 cubic kilometers and covering an area of 2,155 square kilometers.

“Things were handled unprofessionally: the military were careless and lacked specialists to do the math, destroying in the end the dam completely,” he said.

The unfortunate event will have little influence on Ukraine’s plan to launch the counteroffensive, the pro-Ukraine Russian fighter opined.
