Apple is preparing to release rival to ChatGPT

The iPhone maker will compete with other technology giants in artificial intelligence power.

Apple has plans to launch – and it’s going to happen soon, according to press reports – an artificial intelligence chatbot of its own, entering thus in competition with OpenAI, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and other heavy players in the technology industry.

Codenamed Ajax but internally referred to as “Apple GPT”, the new tool is in the state of prototype products. It was built on Google JAX, a machine learning framework that runs on Google Cloud.

What is different about Ajax is the company’s commitment to user privacy and security.

The time of the Apple chatbot release for the public is yet unknown, though insiders point to the year 2024. Now it is mainly used by Apple engineers to train the AI large language model to generate human-like responses. A special invitation is required to access the chatbot.

While being relatively quiet regarding its AI plans, compared to other technology giants, Apple has been incorporating AI features into its products for years. As consumer demand for AI tools that can assist with tasks like drafting essays and generating images, the maker of iPhones and iPods seeks to establish its presence in the AI landscape and compete with industry leaders.

Microsoft recently released an AI chatbot called Copilot, which largely resembles OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Bard, and Meta’s LLaMA.
