[video] Chinese electronics manufacturer releases the world’s fastest charger for smartphones

Full battery charge is achieved in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

Realme, a consumer electronics company based in Shenzhen, China, has published a demonstration of its 320 W SuperSonic Charger that can fill a battery cell up to 26% in 1 minute, over 50% in 2 minutes, and reaches full charge in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

Realme has thus beaten the record of its compatriot competitor Redme, whose charge is capable of doing the same full job in 4 minutes and 55 seconds, claiming that its charger is the world’s fastest.

The demonstration of the charger’s possibilities took place at the Realme Fanfest event last week: it filled a smartphone from 2% to 100% in 4 minutes and 20 seconds. The model name of the smartphone was not revealed.

Nor has Realme announced any dates for the mainstream launch of the new technology. And this may not happen very soon, given that most phones only use single-cell batteries since multi-cell batteries tend to have lower capacities. In other words, a 320-watt push could be damaging for modern phones.

Instead, a company official said its tech department was working on devices that allow the charging of multiple battery cells simultaneously, rather of just one at a time. Now, most phone manufacturers including Apple and those using Android, only use single-cell batteries.

Generally, smartphone chargers use 5-20 watts. Fast chargers for iPhones typically go under 30 watts, though many competitors for other smartphone brands offer 60 to 100-watt chargers. Laptops, meanwhile, need around 60 watts to charge, with fast options speeding to 140 watts.
