[video] Japanese company introduces $16 USB-C cable with 360-degree rotation

The rotating connector minimizes the wear on USB ports.

Sanwa Supply Inc., a Japanese company renowned for innovative peripherals like USB foot pedals and MagSafe-like Ethernet cables, has unveiled a USB-C cable featuring a unique rotating design.

The connector can bend 180 degrees and rotate 360 degrees, aiming to reduce strain on USB-C ports and enhance convenience during charging.

The cable is available in two lengths: 1 meter or 1.8 meters for USB-C to USB-C; and 1 or 2 meters, with the rotating feature limited to the USB-C end for USB-A to USB-C.

The key features:

  • Power Delivery: The USB-C to USB-C cable supports up to 240W PD, suitable for charging high-power devices like gaming laptops. The USB-A to USB-C version supports Quick Charge 3.0, making it ideal for smartphones.

  • Data Transfer: Both models are limited to USB 2.0 speeds (up to 480 Mbps), falling short of modern USB 3.0 or 4.0 standards.

  • Durability and Convenience: The rotating connector minimizes wear on USB-C ports, making it a practical choice for frequent charging.

The prices vary between $12.63 for 1-meter USB-A to USB-C cables and $17.73 for USB-C to USB-C cables. While slightly more expensive than basic cables, the added flexibility and durability may justify the cost for some users.

The cables are currently only available on Sanwa’s Japanese website and requires international shipping. Similar 360-degree charging cables can be found on platforms like Amazon, but most do not support data transfer, unlike this model.
