Honda officially launched on 6 March the model S7, a $35,800 all-electric SUV developed in partnership with China’s Dongfeng. S7 is available in two versions - a single-motor rear-wheel-drive model and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant.
The car, seen as a promising competitor to the Tesla Model Y, is intended exclusively for the Chinese market.
Both versions feature an 89.8 kWh battery pack. The base version delivers 268 hp (200 kW) and 420 Nm of torque, offering a CLTC range of 404 miles (650 km). The dual-motor variant boosts total output to 469 hp (350 kW) and 770 Nm, though its range drops to 385 miles (620 km).

Measuring 4,750 mm in length with a 2,930 mm wheelbase, the S7 is sized like a compact SUV but has proportions closer to a midsize model. The design is bold by Honda standards, featuring digital side mirrors and a futuristic tech-focused interior.
It also includes a 12.8-inch infotainment display, a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster, and an optional 16-speaker Bose sound system.
The S7 also comes with Honda Sensing 360+, offering highway pilot assist for automatic following, overtaking, and deceleration. Initially planned Huawei smart driving features did not make it to production.

Despite its competitive specs and pricing, initial reception has been cautious, with some questioning whether it stands out enough in China's crowded – and the world’s largest – EV market.
The company has announced no plans for expansion on other markets or the number of orders picked up so far.
