Russian lawmaker stripped of mandate over skipping sessions

The man lived in the UAE and failed to show up for work for more than 200 days.

The State Duma, lower chamber of Russia’s parliament, has stripped Yuri Napso, a member of the rightwing Liberal Democratic faction, of his mandate.

An internal audit revealed that the man failed to show up for work for more than 200 days – without providing any eligible motivation, according to Sirena, an investigative outlet with focus on Russia.

Napso told his colleagues in a letter, which Sirena has seen, that he has been in the United Arab Emirates for health reasons, but fell short of specifying the condition he’s been suffering from.

He dismissed the reasoning for which the commission on rules and parliamentary management recommended his colleagues to kick him out of the house.

Napso assured that he was working “remotely.”

The UAE is one of favorite Middle East destinations for Russian oligarchs and government officials for holiday and business, many of them acquiring homes in this Muslim country. It's not clear whether Napso lives on his own property there.
