As many as 30 people were injured last night in a Russian drone attack in the city of Khmelnytskyi in western Ukraine. The Ukrainian forces shot down 17 of the 21 Shahed drones and the escaping projectiles seem to have destroyed a large ammunition facility and fuel stocks.
According to Baza, a Telegram-based news channel, the attack took place after midnight on 12 May. The air raid alert turned on at around 3 o’clock and two loud blasts were heard an hour later. Camera footage show a tall black cloud rising up hundreds of meters above the city horizon and a huge fireball following a minute later.

Official reports from the Khmelnytskyi regional administration confirmed that the escaping UAVs hit a fuel storage and a nearby army facility of ammunition, which exploded upon impact. At the time of reporting, 30 people were known to be injured during the attack, most of whom received medical aid on the spot and a few were hospitalized. A number of nearby buildings were damaged.
Speaking of the attack, a spokesman for the Ukrainian armed forces said Russia had launched the attack from different directions, therefore it was hard to take down all of the drones.
The 12 May attack on military and economic infrastructure is an attempt by Russia to prevent or postpone the planned offensive of the Ukrainian army.
