Why Colombian rum maker hired AI robot as company CEO

Mika, a “female” humanoid machine, is responsible for project management and communication at Dictador.

Dictador, a world-known rum and spirits producer in Colombia, has appointed a robot with artificial intelligence as its chief executive officer, for the first time in history.

Mika is a “female” humanoid in charge with the DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) project and communication, which means it takes decisions independently after analyzing the available data, the company announced on its website

The robot is a board member, responsible for Arthouse Spirits DAO project and communication with the DAO community, on Dictador’s behalf. In a company video, Mika said that "with advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, I can swiftly and accurately make data driven."

“Dictator’s board decision is revolutionary and bold at the same time.

This first human-like robot, with AI, in a company structure, will change the world as we know it, forever,” said Dictador Europe chairman Marek Szoldrowski in comments defending that decision.

Earlier this year, Dictador created the world’s first DAO concept, the value of which is supported by tangible assets that form the company’s 50-million-dollar worth of treasury, which is run by a closed community of high-net worth individuals and investors.

Called the Arthouse Spirits DAO, the treasury consists of an exclusive collection of the world’s oldest and rarest rums, only available to subscribed VIPs and at extraordinary events.

Individuals seeking to buy items from this treasury will have to deal with Mika in person.

Whether “she” is a good negotiator and saleswoman remains to be seen, but her interlocutors will certainly notice strangeness in the robot’s behavior. In an interview with Fox Business, Mika demonstrated significant delay in the time it takes to process the question and deliver the answer.

Mika was developed by Hanson Robotics, a Hong Kong-based robot manufacturer and AI developer that is behind a dozen of AI-powered human-like robots, including Sophia, the first robot with citizenship (Saudi Arabia) and official job (UNDP ambassador for innovation).
