The parliament of Moldova, a small Romanian-speaking nation sandwiched between Romania to the west and Ukraine to the east, has approved a request from the cabinet of Dorin Recean to declare a 60-day state of emergency.
The government in Chisinau is preparing for a complete halt in Russian natural gas supply starting 1 January 2025, following Ukraine’s decision not to extend the gas transit agreement with Russia.

Chisinau has officially condemned Russia for invading its neighbor and moderately sided by Western sanctions.
Russia, which sponsored an armed insurgency in Moldova’s eastern region of Transnistria and supported its separation from Moldova after a brief war 33 years ago, is now waging hybrid warfare against this Eastern European country and keeps a 2,000-3,000 strong contingent of troops in the breakaway enclave.
