Russian assassin of former FSB defector does crypto business with NATO supplier

Investigation depicts Andrey Lugovoy – now politician and businessman – as a crook and hypocritical putinist.

Andrey Lugovoy, a member of the State Duma – lower chamber of the Russian Federal Assembly - since 2007, is widely known for his lead role in the poisoning of former FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko in London in 2006. Litvinenko had defected to the West after uncovering that the Federal Security Agency was behind the terror attacks on residential buildings across Russia.

A new investigation by the Dossier Center, an independent outlet, depicts Lugovoy as a businessman involved in financial misconduct, money laundering, tax evasion, and illegal activities. One operation, however, stands out: the former assassin runs a cryptocurrency business in partnership with a NATO supplier.

A partnership with a NATO supplier

Despite his public image as a staunch patriot and vocal critic of Western nations, Lugovoy's business interests suggest a different reality.

Dossier has learned that he is a business partner to an Irish citizen of Russian origin who turns out to be a manufacturer of fire targeting system equipment for the German army.

This individual, Dmitry Simonenko, was granted Irish citizenship thanks to his gyroscope producing factory Innalabs, which has been officially listed as a NATO supplier.

The enterprise that connects Lugovoy and Simonenko is an unregistered crypto-mining company in the city of Bratsk with a long history of dumping creditors, clients, and suppliers, many of whom have sued the crypto farm over debts. With no legal consequences though.

As Dossier has learned, the farm, which is operated from a Moscow skyscraper officce, has failed to pay its electricity bills for months. It also acts as a money exchanger between cryptocurrencies and fiat money, acting literally as a money launderer.

Lugovoy has built a small business empire spanning imports of sanctions goods to asset management to crypto mining, with most firms hidden behind the names of his family members. He’s been doing very well financially and politically thanks to his successful operation to murder Litvinenko, a whistleblower and political opponent of Vladimir Putin’s regime.

Andrey Lugovoy has been under Western sanctions for his support for the war in Ukraine and is wanting by the United Kingdom to stand trial for the assassination of Litvinenko.
