A recent study in Poland has found no evidence that noise from wind turbines causes mental illness, stress, or other health issues, contradicting claims often promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump and fossil fuel-linked groups.
Researchers at the Adam Mickiewicz University reviewed multiple studies on the topic and conducted their own experiment, concluding that "wind turbine syndrome" is not a scientifically supported condition. Instead, the belief that windmill noise is harmful appears to stem from misinformation and social contagion.
To test the effects of wind turbine noise, the researchers recruited 45 university students (30 women and 15 men) between the ages of 18 and 25—an age group known to be more sensitive to noise.

Participants were not told the purpose of the experiment or what sounds they would hear.
Some were exposed to wind turbine noise, others to road traffic sounds, and a control group to silence. When asked to identify the sounds, those exposed to windmill noise could only describe it as generic white noise, showing no significant cognitive or emotional response.
This study aligns with previous research that has debunked "wind turbine syndrome" as a real medical condition.

The Polish researchers were able to publish their findings in the Nature Humanities & Social Sciences Communications without political interference—something that might not be possible in the United States under Trump’s leadership, given his opposition to "woke" science and his push to defund research that does not align with his views.
While Trump has repeatedly claimed that windmills cause various health problems, the evidence suggests otherwise. Instead, the spread of these fears seems to be a case of social contagion, fueled by misinformation rather than scientific reality.
