The Chantemesse Avenue will be renamed into Lʼavenue Alexeï Navalny, a decision taken unanimously by the council of the 16th district in Paris to honor the late Russian opposition figure, Le Parisien reports.
The 92-year-old, 105-meter long street in western Paris happens to be just 40 meters from the headquarters of the Russian Embassy to France.
A bust of Navalny will be erected at the crossing with the Lannes Boulevard, making it visible by Russian diplomats through the windows of their offices.
The decision to have a street named after dictator Vladimir Putin’s personal enemy will surely annoy the embassy staff and the Kremlin. That’s the point.
Alexey Navalny was killed in a Russian prison on 16 February 2024.
